Time

Time.jpgWe are all born time rich and through our lives (no matter how long or short they may be) it is the one resource we are all running out of. How you spend your time will determine how fulfilled your life will be.

The normal rat-race job is a simple trade-off, a swap of your time for their money, some jobs give you more money per hour of your time than others but in the end you’re being paid in exchange for your time.

Depending on your definition of freedom, one way to find freedom (location independence) is to be able to make this time-for-money swap from any location and/or time that you choose.
Another way (and the one I prefer) is to have sufficient money coming in without having to giving up much of your precious time, this is passive income.

Some people are lucky enough to have found a way to monetise their passion which, if done properly means that you’re living a fulfilled life and getting paid for it. These people may not necessarily want more time as they are already fulfilled but I have found these people to be few and far between.

Here are some tips on how to free up more time:

  • Make time a priority – A lot of people give up their time too easily. Watching Television for the sake of watching, doing things others ask when it’s not important or a priority to them… Instead make your time a priority by watching what you really want to watch, the rest of the time do something else with your time; say no to things that waste your time.
  • Wake up a little earlier every day – It takes a little while to get into this routine but there is something about being up when the sun rises that adds so much to the day.
  • Follow a routine – It doesn’t have to be a daily routine or an exact routine but follow something that doesn’t require much decision making (See Discipline).
  • Meditate – You may feel like you don’t have time to meditate but that is when you should be meditating the most, it has been shown that you get back the time used to meditate up to four fold through prioritising and efficiency improvements. See the meditation blog for more info and what works for me.
  • Productivity/Efficiency improvements – This is very important not only for increased time but for the other pillars too. Search for productivity and you will find a large number of ideas, then try them and see what works for you.
