Mind

Mind.jpegYou may be a huge fitness fanatic who eats healthy and is super fit, but if you are not mentally at peace (and strong), you are either not totally healthy or on the way to being unhealthy.

You can do this by:

  • Don’t bottle things up, speak to someone: Mental health issues are often kept a secret or ignored. It is okay to see somebody, especially if you go through extended periods of feeling depressed, don’t ignore it. These are very common and dangerous health issues, and should get the same urgency as one would give to a physical ailment. Be aware of what you feel.
  • Get adequate rest: We live incredibly busy lives, and often sleep less to try and get everything done. But this is important recharging time for our mind as well as our body, so get a good, restful night’s sleep.
  • Practice having a positive attitude
  • Keep your brain active:
    • Reading – I set myself goals to read 2 books a month.
    • Don’t stop learning – Undertake new projects that encourage learning, such as a new language or a new skill
    • Pomodoro technique – When working on intensely analytical tasks, break up the work into intervals of focus and relaxation.
    • Physical exercise – Helps clear the mind and get the blood flowing to the brain.
    • Eat healthy – Just like the body, the drain needs the right blend of nutrients and vitamins
    • Apps – Such as Peak, make use of games to train various aspects of the brainBrain
