This is income that comes from us actively putting effort in to earn. Whether it’s sitting in an office, being a journalist while travelling or doing manual labour. The lines can become blurry but the way I recognise active income is by asking whether I would still be earning this money if I wasn’t there for a week or two (and don’t have to put in a leave form).

The main issue with active income is that when you aren’t actively earning it, it stops. So I place a lot of emphasis on increasing my passive income. To do this, I either have to earn money actively which can then be put to work passively, or grow a business (actively) which can then later provide a passive income, or (my preferred method) both.

Earning money

Besides the standard 9-5 job, a lot has been written on how to make money, just search for anything related to money and you are inundated with advice, suggestions and how-to’s. I am going to be trying out a lot of different ways of making money which can be done from anywhere (location independent) or at any time (time independent) as these are two of my freedom criteria and will be giving feedback on each of these. Hopefully one or more will be able to help you find your freedom.
